Camping trip #1 for the summer is now in the books. We had some wind issues. Actually, we had lots of wind issues. The wind blew the entire time we were there. Friday night, it felt like we were back in Oklahoma when we were combining and riding out storms in the camper. It's alot nicer being in the camper though instead of in the tents that some of the cousins had to be in. One tent dweller had to ride it out to keep the tent on the ground and from collapsing in and beind destroyed. The jetski did get put in the water, but in hindsight it wasn't a good plan. it was difficult to load and unload the watercraft, and the only thing I did in the water was just that, keep it from getting run into metal or wood on the dock and trailer to get it back out. Sunday, she sat and whimpered on the trailer all day, but she also knew that it was not a good time to be out on the water. Hopefully, we can have some action on the water this coming weekend as we camp up near Gettysburg. I've seen no time on the water this year. It's just a wild summer so far, but I've had no open weekends since the Memorial Day weekend. It's rough being in such high demand!
Work is just about out of control busy! Most people I talk to say that it is really job security. That it is, and overtime is plentiful. That's always a plus though when balancing the checkbook.
Other things going on include a process for church and the radio station. I'm doing website work for both of them, and tonight is the beginning of the process for the new church's website. I've done all the major design, and have a great set of teammates who have been assisting with me the entire way. That site will be on here as a link in the not too distant future, there are just some things that have to be completed on it. Well, this might be it prior to the big holiday coming up. Have a happy 4th!

Camping
Well, it's time to hit the road and get out on the water for the season. I cannot believe it is late in June and I've still not been to the lake yet. This weekend is the 17th annual Wipf Family Campout. 17 years! And the entire family is still getting along! So, the watertoys will be out in full force this weekend for the kickoff. It's quite sad really, and alot the same as when I go hunting (or lack there of this past fall). Time just isn't as plentiful as it seems like it has been in the past. So, next weekend for 4th of July we are going to the river camping also! Ohh, it's going to be the life the next two weekend!

Dreading Tomorrow
Well, 1 day after refereeing a personal high of 10 soccer games in two days, I'm actually not feeling one bit bad. I was in decent condition before the weekend, and it's showing now that I'm not all that sore.
Did you know? - A center referee will cover between 5.5-7.5 miles in an U19 boys soccer game.
Also, since three referees are used per game, generally you can plan on doing 1/3 of the games as a center referee and the rest as the assistant. I had 4 games in the center of my 10, doing 15, 17 (twice), and 19 year olds in the center. I only got two games of kids under 15. That makes for lots of running no matter which referee you end up being. The younger games I got to do were the 11 year old girls and big game of the tourney, the 13 year old girls championship game as an assistant. Very critical game!
Did you know? - 11 year old girls care more about the tunnel the parents make them with their arms then the 8-1 loss they just had.
So, overall, I'm feeling good. However, I'm aware that sometimes that two days after is when you sometimes start to feel the pain. We'll see how tomorrow feels.
Also, I've been placed on my softball teams' DL. I have been hit twice by line drives pitching this season, and both of them hit my glove hand or wrist, and I have a badly sprained wrist. Catching the ball hurts, and hitting just kills. So, it's three weeks off for me, which will be my longest period of missed games ever.
Did you know? - I've only missed two games ever due to injury. The first was my senior year in basketball and the second was after I almost cut my thumb off I missed a night of softball.
So, I'll sit and enjoy not having to go and get hit by a line drive. In case you're wondering, our softball team this season so far, is 2-8. We find ourselves in the cellar of the Mitchell League.

Soccer over
Well, the spring soccer season concluded over the weekend with the state tournament in Rapid City. We had to endure some challenges, moving game times, missing players, sick players, and all kinds of other things that happened through the week.
We came out missing two of our oldest players in the first game and got beat by Spearfish 4-1. We played in the under 19 classic division, which was the more challenging of the two under 19 divisions. However, in our first game, we didn't have anyone much over 17, and had some 7th graders starting against a team that had one player under 17, and the rest were much older. It was somewhat frustrating also only have two substitutes to use, so there wasn't much in the way of options for changing things. We got a nice break though, and the players that were missing came out and arrived in time for the second game in the evening. The downfall in that was the rain pouring down as the match got underway. It poured for several minutes, and eventually let up, but enough to make everyone throughly soaked. We were able to come out with a win though 3-2 over Rapid City. I was happy with the play, and very happy that we didn't go home with no wins.
So, we got up on Saturday, and the weather was bad. 40 degrees and rain/sleet/snow. The only thing that kept it from snow was that it wasn't white. It was fairly miserable conditions, and we didn't play well our first game and were beaten 5-2. Watertown was a team that I thought we should play even with, and our defense didn't play too well, and the offense blew way many chances. So, we needed a win over our spring nemesis Yankton to go home even on the weekend. Now as they do on Sportscenter, lets flash back to May 2nd and the first meeting of these two teams when there was an altercation with the players and the referee and the James Valley coach that resulted in two ejections. Yankton won the game 4-3. Then, the second meeting of the two teams in Yankton on May 30 when Yankton soundly defeated James Valley 6-3 in a game that tended to be chippy and lippy. So, back to present, State tournament matchup, and James Valley gets on the board in the first 10 minutes 1-0. Yankton came back 5 minutes later to even things at 1-1, and just before half, James Valley scored again and would not look back scoring 4 times in the second half to win 6-2. It was revenge in the sweetest form, beating the opponent that owned you during the year, and doing it in emphatic fashion. And, watching the guys hardly being able to walk off the field because they'd played their hearts out was a good feeling, and a great end to the season. Now, back to the field for me to resume being a referee. For the foreseeable future, all my soccer games will be watched for fun, or in my referee gear.

Winding down the season
Hard to believe that the spring season of soccer is winding down already. We are headed to Rapid City on Thursday for the State tournament. We have entered in the top division with all AA school in SD, which is going to be a major challenge for our little Class B schools. However, I'm glad that we are going to be challenged. I think the kids will benefit alot more from playing kids at a higher level. We are also playing the only teams that beat this year again on Saturday, so we hope to be able to get the revenge back when it really counts. That's what I'm pulling for. So, we begin our season wrap up at 8am Friday Morning. Come be part of our fan club!!
